In 1996, we received a call from a client in Connecticut, who wanted to build a 40′ x 60′ timber frame barn on his property. He also had a flock of chickens and wanted to build a special place for them. During the construction of the main barn, we designed and constructed a 16′ x 20′ poultry barn. The structure sat on a poured slab with edge and center beadboard interior, individual nesting boxes, Marvin windows and a cupola for a finishing touch. After construction was done we received a frantic phone call that chickens were injuring themselves. We investigated and found that the chickens with nothing left to loose were throwing themselves off the roosting bar and into the wall. We immediately removed the bar so the chickens would be safe and sound in their new home.
