When John Libby was growing up in Presque Isle, he worked alongside his father in the family's small construction company. It was here that he gained a lasting appreciation for solid construction.

Waldo Libby believed in getting the job done right. Every customer was important, and nothing gave him more pleasure than exceeding expectations. Today, John and his craftspeople proudly carry on the spirit of high value and exceptional customer service his father's work exemplified.

John began his own business in the mid-1970s revitalizing classic barns. As John's admiration of timeless craftsmanship grew, so did his knowledge of the fundamentals that enabled these centuries-old shelters to endure. Today, the Houses & Barns by John Libby team uses many of the same traditional skills John mastered through restoration.

We are masters in the art of timber framing. Authentic timber framing is many generations old, and much of the work we do in our shop is still done by hand using traditional tools. While the methods have changed very little, timber frame design has become extremely versatile, opening the door to many aesthetically intriguing possibilities in custom home design.

Though we are well known for timber framing, we custom craft our structures to match whatever style an individual client desires. Concepts are based on your dreams and the inspiration we draw from your property.
